Yeah our government pays huge subsidies to corporate farms, but regular family farms and ranches get fucked.
For the family rancher or farmer, it’s a game of hoping that you have 5 good years out of 10 to cover the bad years, and if weather, prices, or circumstances are bad more than that they go under and get bought out by the subsidized corporations.
Add to that a constant increase in property taxes from encroaching development and land valuation and the average family farm needs to generate a large positive cash flow just to keep the land out of tax court.
So yeah mondelez, Tropicana, Tyson, and the like are all making out like bandits and win if the crops or stock boom or fail because of subsidies, but Johnny Dirtfarmer has to wait for Willie Nelson and John Cougar to hold another beggar concert to get any relief bucks…
