It's not even the skills really, it's the time and attention. That he never taught anything told you he thinks you're incompetent. That he never spent any time with you told you he doesn't care about you. As a child you ingested these impressions as true facts about yourself; if your father thinks you are ugly, stupid and unloveable, it must in fact be true. Learning the skills won't heal that.
