Dopamine levels are obnoxiously high in our modern age, and if you allow your children too much time (it varies from person to person) in front of the screen, they lose that valuable dopamine that would otherwise come from active stimulation rather than passive as the likes of television or movies. Teach them the value of hard work, gardening, and make it a part of their socialization.
If you are to allow media, severely limit their time. It's largely affected by you and your wife's lifestyle in what they should interact with more. Depending on age, introduce them to the arts, good high-quality kid friendly video games, cinema or cartoons. Allow your children to truly see art for what it is, and have that shape their perspective. Remember, Google wants your children away from you and will use anything and everything at their disposal to do just that.
