D-Day consisted of multiple german built fortresses that lined the beach and because of this it made it difficult for americans to land on the beach and due to this difficulty there were tons of casaulties. Another example of a siege would be the battle of stalingrad during ww2 it was the place of a violent and bloody battle that could have been seen as a siege due to the myriad of defensive positions that could be held and utilized and the fact it wasnt in a field or a forest
