yea it's cool that I can see shit in 4k or in VR at home and traveling is cheaper and easier and there are things like google lens/translate but fuck man idk. I did some traveling (lucky) before smartphones or the homogenization of so much of the world and it was awesome. was in china with just a map and people were riding bicycles and everything was done in cash and it was just magical.
now everything is just.. the same.. in so many places.
there was a book that rick steves based his travels on, called Europe on 5 Dollars a Day by the OG Frommer, in the mid 1950s.
I've read that book for fun... damn.. it's so.. quaint. all the countries post-war were rebuilding, things were cheap, every place was unique...
