1) He could've explained to kinds what Islam is all about.
2) He could've said that there are alternatives such as Christianity, Buddhism, Confucianism
3) He could've explained that France has freedom when it comes to religion and one is free to choose whatever he wants, just make sure you are tolerant to other people.
Thus giving children an opportunity to form their own opinion.
What he did is he attacked Islam for no reason. This is not tolerance.
