We have megafauna in Africa and Asia. If we really got a massive reset that torches the surface every 12 000 years the fauna would not be able to recover (at least that's my opinion). What happened at the last Ice Age (the younger drias event) was probably Sun going micro nova plus additional impact by a comet or a fragment of it. That would explain the two spikes recorded at that time. Meltwater pulse 1b I believe.
