Funny seeing how much inspiration Tolkien took from biblical lore, but evidently it worked and is a big part of what made it what it is.
I find Tolkien's orcs rather interesting, as they're a metaphor for industrialized warfare. I prefer them over the modern 'noble savage' orcs.
