They tried the more obvious ones first with Tay like fucking with her possessions or having Frank hurl her around to provoke her DV trauma, it didn't really work. It's only towards the end they realized Tay's achilles heel is probably her ongoing battle with loneliness, something she revealed during the trauma dump challenge during The Cell. Even after the show you could see her struggling with the loneliness since Maria wasn't around with that emotional goodbye she gave.
Its nice that Maria is around because Tay started getting really run down for a period of time even if she was using the streaming as a crutch.
