Anyway the Emperor isn't atheist in the same sense as Dawkins, he wants mankind to starve chaos of strong emotions, which in his view includes rebuking religion and tolerating it on the down-low, but that can be interpreted in several ways. Maybe he's the antichrist come to damn humanity. Or maybe he's its real savior come to eventually shatter superstition and blind faith. Those multiple interpretations are part of what makes 40K very interesting.
