I don’t know why I am telling you this, but before I knew anything about Touhou there was this video I found of Patchouli Knowledge sleeping somewhere; but it gave me an impression I would never have again, a certain feeling stuck in my head. Part of the reason why was because I was so ignorant about Touhou that I guessed it was a 90s anime with a lot of series, kind of like Sailor Moon, about sisters discovering a hidden world or something. I was also really young, and the video had this kind of Gothic feeling in it so my brain went crazy imagining a cool series, and I don’t know why I didn’t do further research into Touhou at the time other then I thought the whole Touhou thing was confusing (espiecally after hearing about the word ‘project’ in the name). I just wanted to talk about that certain feeling you get when you are ignorant and have your first impressions of something, only for it to get shattered about finding more about something because ignorance allows your vivid imagination to grow. It was kind of like the ‘sleep of reason’ engraving by Goya, where I remembered seeing it younger and having a very vivid impression but after learning more about the piece it just didn’t give me the same impression. It explains a lot about childhood. Only reading the official Touhou mangas scratches that itch I had.
Did you ever have something similar? Can someone find the video?
