i agree with some of his principles, but he's such a whiny bitch about it all. plus he was extremely lazy with french in college or his department was so insanely dogshit that it should've been clear that was the problem rather than language education as a whole.
a language minor at my school is like 6 classes at absolute most. even if i were to take the required 3 language courses and fill the rest with literature and culture, which clearly isn't the sort of thing he would've chosen to do, i'd be able to order a fucking baguette. i'm barely 2 classes into jap and i can converse with someone if they make a point of speaking to me as if i'm retarded.
the notion that he spent 2-3 year grinding "just grammar" so hard that he could pull obscure conjugations out his ass and read literature but somehow didn't know what those conjugations meant or how to output at all is laughably absurd, there's just no way it would happen
