>>12588669I intended to teach at university. Help young people learn and expand their understanding of self and their place in the universe. The real world kicked in and I ended up working in IT.
I have used my degree personally my whole life. I was formally trained to think analytically, to construct and breakdown arguments, to understand that philosophy is foundational and each school or era builds on, and is a response to, the philosophies that came before them. It has helped me immensely in business and as a manager but no one hires me because of it. The West has no respect for a philosopher because we have rappers, news anchors, and celebrities who direct our thinking. A degree in philosophy is essentially a vanity degree - you do it for yourself and not for what it can get you financially.
