>>12994755well d&d has schools but there is literally 1 class of 13 for which the school of your spells matters ever and even then it's pretty minor. additionally it comes across as schools being entirely secondary as if they came up with spells then sorted them into schools later.
what i'm proposing is more breaking it down into elemental schools then coming up with a number of modifiers and letting everything be emergent. i like that it gives you a certain amount of intuition for what's out there while simultaneously raising some questions. obviously when you hear gaia forta it's gonna be making a stone wall or shield or armor or something but if scua is shadow then what the fuck is scua forta
