One third of New Mexico and Arizona's (1/3 of 9 million ppl in those states) population speak Spanish as their first language and have Mexican cultural ties, not Chilean. Economically and lifestyle wise, whites in the South west are closer to Australians, while Hispanics are almost entirely from Mexican, or have Mexican cultural background and lifestyle but with more money.
