I'm talking about prolific criminals who get a very long sentence, a dozen or so years of their life. There are the one in a thousand or so stories of recovery, but is that what to count things on?
I don't see the empathy in putting them in prisons with inhumane conditions where they'll suffer for long enough that they turn into a shell of a person by the time it's over, anyhow. Things aren't fair, yeah, they weren't born with the intent of what they ended up doing, but at the point that they arrive, they know nothing but it.
And I think if their friends and family who loved this criminal so much, don't do anything to stop them from doing what they do, and the harming of others that come from it, then they deserve the sadness they'll get from the person ultimately being gone.
And, by that logic, shouldn't we let a criminal who got a 40 year sentence go, because he has family that loves him so much? I just don't see the difference, their sentencing is just as bad as death, if not worse, in my eyes. What do you think? I'm willing to listen and change my views.
