And don't we already DO DRUGS in the form of alcohol, tobacco, pills, porn, mood altering food, video games, social media, mindless entertainment, etc? These things are known to be coping mechanisms that are destructive and addictive in their own right. It's kind of hypocritical to say these things are okay, but other drugs are BAD, mmmkay? see what I'm getting at?
People LOVE TO, and I'd argue NEED TO alter their consciousness in some way and escape their 'default mode network' in order to deal with life. Look at the prohibition. It didn't go well. Look at dry counties and countries where drugs are punishable by death-- people get weird. If that's the case, then the best case scenario is a 'drug' or means of altering yourself that is educational, healing, connects you to a higher sense of morality, and is generally uplifting yet non-addictive. Better that than intentionally getting dumber and more degenerate.
The thing you miss is that psychedelics will challenge your impulse for degeneracy and tend to orient you toward living a better life. Those that overlook this impulse are just childishly clinging onto their little comfort blankets and are in fact rejecting the invitation from God to grow and actualize into high functioning people.
Common themes from psychedelics experiences: Universal Love, compassion, forgiveness, kindness, letting go of the past, deeper insight into human nature, valuing levity and a positive mindset, spirituality, introspection, valuing life and the gift of this earth, strength in the face of adversity, fun, health, acceptance of the design of life, growth, awareness of one's impact on the world around them, self acceptance, humility in the face of the grand cosmic scale, connection, etc...
