space travel is limited to what mankind have, and is doing, in material and tech. think of us rn as europe without anywhere to go without possible communication taking years. mars have nothing with value besides being a place between places, but without anything on the atmosphere and (I think) without geomagnetic activity its a dead planet while space os there to be mined etc. we need something to do with the planet itself to help us now here comes what you asked, imo what would be needed is, a process of securing some kind of nuclear reactor, or anything similar as atomic power, but on both poles. there we have two sides for mankind to care about, but what do we do with the planet which is the problem for us, because there is nothing there with value. imo we should, big if here if mars can hold an ocean l, aim for two rings as civilization for space, and then maybe throw the same tech as heat source to melt the ice caps. but that is nothing that actually matter because if the planet is without geomagnetic activity, maybe the atmosphere needs more density and different gas levels that allow breathing, without atmosphere mars is just a base. concentric rings around the poles for mankind to unite mars as a civilization through building is still a good idea though, since mars is a fucking alien graveyard.
