Also, the White population is pretty ethnically homogenous by United States standards. Apart from Irish enclaves, the rural areas are predominantly German and Scandinavian (Norwegians but also smatterings of Swedes and Finns). Good for social cohesion. Nonwhites are largely confined to the major cities. Minnesota is the least White state and it's still 85% non-Hispanic White.
