Even after brain damage and becoming uncharacteristically docile for a Saiyan, Goku would still value battle over all other things. His wife, his friends, his children, everything always came second to himself getting what he wanted, which was a good fight. He lets evil tyrants like Vegeta and Frieza live, time and time again. Not out of mercy, not out of optimism they can become good, but because he wants to fight them once more. Even if that means risking them killing everyone around him he supposedly cares about to get it, Goku is fine with that, so long as he gets his fight. This is recurring throughout the entire franchise.
Even Piccolo Jr called Goku out during the Cell Games conclusion for being a cruel asshole to his own child, when Piccolo Jr himself was the reincarnation of Piccolo Diamao, a devil who only wanted to dominate all life underneath him. When a demon tells you that you are a fucked up father, something is very wrong with you.
