Should add to this that what's happening to 4chan right now is reminiscent about what happened to SomethingAwful (which in turn pissed off moot and a bunch of users and led to 4chan).
I can see a 4chan replacement popping up in the near future with the same general openness and freedom, but that will inevitably stagnate too.
