Life at sea gets really tough, really quickly though. You can go from clear skies to six foot waves and howling wind within minutes. It's do-able, but it wouldn't be a peaceful life.
And then you factor in both pirates and the idea that every coastguard and military vessel on the ocean is going to think you are a pirate or a drug smuggler and it gets less appealing.
