The e.t. species initially used extremely powerful radiation emitters to broadcast a signal into space that we initially picked up as an "impossibly hot planet". In recent hours, however, it has been noted that these signals seem to be changing in controlled patterns.
Of course, these signals are from many years ago, due to the planet's distance, but the ability to so completely change the stellar appearance of their planet leads us to believe that they might have survived.
