>>9801004>But what about Goethe?I read Faust in Russian when I was about 13 I think (I also read books for the plot mostly back then), and although I liked it at that time it didn't really impress me as it seemed sort of clumsy and overdone, so I haven't given it a re-read even to this day. I really liked some shorter Goethe's poems though, and I've also read The Sorrows of Young Werther in German but its lexis and syntaxis were extremely difficult to comprehend, so I guess my experience of that one was incomplete, but I found it fine nevertheless. So yeah, give him a read, at least for the overall cultural development
