I can give you a simple explanation of the story tho.
As stated in the Bible, God didn't flood the earth simply because men was raping, murdering or some other things.
Angels from heaven went down to the earth and procreated with human females. (Angels are only male).
This procreation lead to the creation of giants. These giants had a soul not created on heaven(like ours), but on earth. There existed no food to feed such creatures, so they started to eat men.
Now here is where it goes into speculation, these angels, fallen angels, posed themselfs as gods for ancient civilizations and they asked for wicked human sacrifices as they probably gained something spiritual that way.
This, not only explains the existence of all the pagan religions but the existence of these temples as well.
