I think the the magnetic field keeps the atmosphere contained which creates pressure and holds things down to the ground.
If you had a spherical tank of water with a rock inside it in outer space, and then you started spinning the tank, I think something similar to Earth would be reproduced.
The outside of the sphere needs more energy to spin than the inside-picrel, so things would naturally "drift" towards the center.
