Oldfags used to visit /b/ regularly but /b/ kept getting worse and became little more than nonstop porn dump threads despite there being several boards already dedicated to most of it. Oldfags got even older and more interested in global politics, so a lot of us eventually became /pol/-regulars. Gradually /pol/ became a mix of oldfags and newfag boomers and /pol/ became /b/ 2.0 so /bant/ was made as a place to move all of the off-topic threads, because as much as the leftists like to say that everything is political, it's not.
Due to the countless versions of the same thread being made because nobody checks the catalog (insert latest US school shooting here) and because people are getting really burnt-out on actual political discussions that never seem to go anywhere, /bant/ will probably become /b/ 3.0 as a lot of the boomers stay in /pol/.
