There are aspects of those concepts that are entirely socially constructed and -outside of physical traits- there are many outliers to those concepts. So yes, gender is a social construct in many ways. But so is language, and language is a necessity. Saying a thing is a social construct doesn't open it to criticism. Nor does it delegitimize it.
