I agree and always disliked the commercialisation of Christmas and making it about materialism, so I didn't understand growing up why I disliked it so much, but now I do.
Also being anti-communist is a good thing, that said, you do not have to be rich to celebrate a traditional Christmas, that wasn't what it was about traditionally, like I said , that kicked in after WWII and really took off with the boomers and now post-boomer society. We all know what was meant by "Christmas spirit" and goodwill, from the pre-boomer Europe, and it doesn't reflect what you wrote at all.
