That would allow career path with less bureaucracy than officers have to deal with as that might be one of reasons why USAF is bleeding a lot of middle management pilots. They are now trying to fill ranks fighter squadrons with people from refueling and airlift units, while trying to get back already retired officers to keep airlift and refueling units in running condition.. only to have those even more woefully understaffed in few years.
