I don't know about the flat earth, but reactions to mention of the very topic does illuminate how hopelessly dependent people are on "common knowledge" to feel existentially secure. The people propounding a round earth become emotionally disgusted and they think it's because they must be the voice of reason. It's not. They get so frustrated because the emotion obfuscates from themselves one simple fact: they don't actually know the earth is round.

Again, that emotional confidence is only to conceal the fact that your "knowledge" is actually only based on faith in the word of people whom for all you know are lying to you, and the thought of that would cause your weak mind too much existential dread.
It is the people who can entertain the notion of the earth being flat who are reasonable, not the ones regurgitating their indoctrination and confusing their disgust for intelligence.
