>>21442238Making things from scratch, like God, is a long way off*, but "copy / pasting" things or "activating / inactivating" things will be fairly easy soon. Anything you can find in one animal (or gender) can eventually be moved to another animal (or gender).
One of the easiest (and least detrimental) will be taking colors from things like birds and putting them into animals. Any color you can find in a bird feather, you can eventually express in the fur of a dog the underlying biology is nearly identical. The first organisms created this way will be "neon dogs" or maybe rats or hamsters.
*I should point out that scientists have made a "novel single celled organism" FROM SCRATCH with just 400 genes. Every gene came from another organism, but the novel organism was "printed" with a genetic sequencer. It was a very simple type of yeast, btw.
