and yeah, the point's more that (western) dragons have become something that bad writers throw in to make their stories look better
examples: you want a powerful enemy for your protagonists? add dragons
you want a powerful ally but don't like elves/gods/whatever? add dragons
you want a cool old guy who isn't some wrinkly obi-wan/gandalf knockoff? add dragons
the days when they were more than just walking stereotypes are long gone
which is why we need help from the east, you people have your own dragon tradition and I think your writers have been treating them better
