>intelligent conversationI see even less what you mean, as I saw many snarky "intelligent" people that likewise can't properly converse, one doesn't have to grasp conversation in it's entirity as long as it keeps it civil, it's far more intelligent to admit ignorrance on a topic and lack of understanding than strawman until the other person loses it's nerves, they ask intelligent questions that don't lead to dumb digressions (this does somewhat change the conversation into a lecture) but they still stand their ground as participants in said conversation instead of blank figurines that just stand and absorb
having a phd degree does not in any way guarrantee you'll be able to keep a conversation going, and likewise being a dumbass in most fields doesn't mean you can't show your charisma, I like to keep my intelligrnces separate (cognitive, logical, motoric, conversational, social-dynamical, ptoblem solving etc etc) instead of keeping to a vague umbrella term
