Back in the day it was common sense not to put your personal info out there online... today it's the exact opposite. People WANT everyone to see everything they do. This is the wildest shit to me and public social media is one of the worst things to happen to society. Anonymity provides an aura and culture of truth. It opens the avenue for people to speak their private mind to others. With social media likes, movements and hiveminds; with every account people have being linked to eachother ... most places online no longer have that level of honesty. We live in a virtue signaling culture of people performing for others. Even those who know better, fear speaking their mind due to the social repercussions of going against the hive.
This is the primary reason I beleive the MSM views 4chan as such an incredible threat. We are the very last surface web holdout that truly values freedom of speech and thought and we achieve this largley via anonymity. Traditional online forums effectively killed themselves. While people blame a changing internet and prevelance of APP culture for the death of forums; the truth is these places began enforcing more and more rules on what people could and couldn't say. More suspensions, more bans. They drove their interesting and polarizing users away in favor of a safe space, that's frankly boring.
