>>19279228In the early church, they believed that a prophet should die on the same day that he was conceived. The early church had Jesus' death as occurring on the 25th of March, add 9 months, and we get to December 25th. Christians were doing their own calculations, irrespective of the pagans. While there were multiple deities, gods and goddesses, and their days/celebrations throughout the year, Christians did their own calculations, and ironically happened to fall upon a day that didn't actually have pagan celebrations, but even if there had been an overlap it would have been (and is) irrelevant to Christians and Christianity.
In an agrarian society, you will always have some sort of event or celebration marking the changing days or of the seasons/weather. People tend to celebrate when the days get longer or shorter as a milestone, and this has nothing to do with pagan deities or pagan faith. Paganism was just injected into that seasonal change celebration, while Christianity gives meaning on a higher and deeper level, and changed everything in Europe for our ancestors and culture, and how we celebrated it.
