Mothers deal with life, it's "great father mushroom" because father is the one who deals with death and decay and mushrooms are what recycle you and everything on this planet. Plants could not live without mushrooms, we probably wouldn't even have oil without mushrooms either because the matter has to decay and mushrooms decaying matter more complex potent sludge. They are also more or less the "backup memory" of planet earth because a lot of the fuckers are just impervious to fire/disasters/meteors and will simply shrug cataclysm off like its own spores. They were the first and will undoubtedly be the last. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if a mushroom were space proof and traveled from another world to start fruiting here.
