Like I said above, people who live in world-class accommodation (compared with history) can still fall into depression, a purely mental agony that no material circumstance can remedy. At the same time, comparatively totally poor people (like in the ancient times) were completely happy in their daily toils, such as a Roman farmer or Greek mercenary. The thesis that material wealth remedies "suffering" isn't good.
