The Northern shore of the Balaton is breathtaking and see Keszthely while you're around. Sopron is also nice and it's right there at the border. If you're in Budapest and want to see something wholesome, take a ride on the Children's Railway, which is a literal narrow-gauge railway being operated by children. Under adult supervision, of course and the train drivers are adults, but... ...you get the idea.
