Los Angeles era Ian is a genuine piece of fucking shit. He has to be the best example of L.A completely sucking the soul out of someone and turning them into a malicious con man I’ve ever seen. Smosh has been an abortion for almost a decade now.
No, Defy Media collapsing and Rhett and Link owning it for a few years didn’t “save” it. No, old Smosh isn’t back because modern Ian and Anthony technically own the rights and intellectual property of Smosh again. And no, those Vine/TikTok leeches aren’t funny and don’t in any way represent Smosh’s essence. They’re about as pleasant as an incurable diseased anus and nutsack.
When Ian and Anthony lived in Sacramento and had that house together, Smosh was at its peak. Not only was it so much more enjoyable to watch than now, but it was also representative of how much better the internet and society in general is now. Smosh was funnier and a lot more human and authentic. The fact that nu-Ian is desperate to write all of 2008-2013 (their objective golden years) off as “oh it wasn’t diverse enough” or “oh we objectified women for the thumbnails a lot and that was evil” or “oh Anthony and I’s friendship wasn’t THAT good” because he insists on pushing those retarded girls/guys/theythems as being the face of Smosh says a lot about him and what L.A has done to him. Los Angeles era Anthony is insufferable, no doubt, but if you think he’s the all-out malicious manipulative con man that Ian is, you need to wake the fuck up.
Having it be the home movies project of two suburban best friends is way better than having it be a massive production of a group of theater kids that SNL called too retarded and unfunny lecturing you on your privilege, or telling the most sanitized and cringy “jokes” imaginable.
TL;DR - Smosh died in 2014. Emo Anthony > Everyone and Everything.
