The books are like some incomplete form of himself, and I'm pretty sure the Ensemblee dies in the last act, just after the light starts spreading and they get its blessing thus evolving, the books should either be in the library or they should be dead for good
When the seed started spreading, the former books should've merged with philip so I don't think there's any trace of him in the city
