Some parasites can castrate crabs, including:
Sacculina
A barnacle that attaches to a crab and develops in the crab's gonads. The parasite destroys the crab's gonads, which can lead to parasitic castration. Sacculina can also change a crab's habits, preventing it from molting and making it constantly hungry.
Portunion conformis
A parasite that can infect both male and female crabs. The parasite swims into the crab and finds a place to grow. The crab produces a sac around the parasite, but the parasite can grow to take up almost all the space inside the crab. A single Portunion can fully infect and castrate a crab.
Loxothylacus panopaei
A parasitic barnacle that can infect both male and female mud crabs. When a young female barnacle finds a crab, it loses its eyes and legs and injects itself into the crab's circulatory system. The parasite replaces the crab's reproductive system with its own, tricking the crab into protecting the parasite's offspring
The Kentrogonida order contains the Sacculinidae family, known for their ability to induce parasitic sterilization in crabs. The genus Sacculina established by Thompson in 1836 contains 129 species. Among these, Sacculina carcini was the first and most studied barnacle parasite.
