I was never a lifter but had normal muscle mass and had worked as a courier for by then 20 years lifting freight daily.. so go for it in your 20's-40's but when your muscles literally begin vanishing this becomes problematic. I tried huge doses of Leucine which are supposed to stimulate muscle tissue building ( yes along with 2:1 citruline/malate but i eventually read it causes insulin problems and gave it up. I do eat less than three full meals a day but need plenty of protein
