The brahmin Aussie accent you hear urban middleclass professionals speak is kind of plumby and half-RP. Of course, the American accent sounds better, but we at least have the Queen's grammar. American's don't even understand how to unstress syllables. Listen to them pronounce "Cameron". I've heard New Yorkers say "Kam-Err-On". Americans should read about English phonetics because I think there's a lot of confusion in the states about how to say words correctly.
My accent is neutral because I am well educated and I watch a lot of American tv and movies. This made me quite effective when I was teaching ESL.
