There is yes a growing segment of male population that has contact with women but simply do not have bonds with any women. They have either been hurt by the women in their families, or do not receive any affection from women in their proximity that makes them doubt the 'women are selfish spiders' truism that is so overwhelming today.
I am not one of these men, but I am also guilty of the attitude you have described. I have never had a girlfriend despite being in my late 30s, I felt more empathy for the poor people jailed in Gaza since 2005 than for the german raver hippie, and I actively go out of my way to help men way more than I do to help a woman. Women in my life have hurt me, yes, and this will probably leave injuries for the rest of my life that makes me less empathetic towards half the population.
