With proton, esp. proton-GE 99.99% of all games run flawlessly. Exceptions: botched implementations of anti-cheat (normal anti-cheat works just fine).
Advantages of Linux emulating: You can pretend to the game to have the exact windows version that it wants, which you cannot do with native windows (compatibility mode sucks for this).
