u know as someone who's done weights a lot i found more sets means more than more weight
so i've always wanted to be able to do this program with a bunch of adaptations to it
https://www.menshealth.com/fitness/a24563798/german-volume-training/10 sets for 10 reps if you've ever done it with even a little bit of weight really adds up. the things i'd change is go for a pure dumbell routine. why would i do that? because of how barbells are in that you're not stabilizing the weight the same way you are with dumbells. they often say to use dumbell bench to break a weight plateau on barbell. speaking from personal experience i've got DOMS pains i never had doing barbell benchpress with dumbells so i know its hitting more things. also if you don't have a spotter (i dont) you have the ability to just drop the stupid dumbells if you fail a rep.
the other things i'd do with GVT is pyramid the weight twice and add the caveat that any set after 7 isn't essential if u can't do it.
i planned all this shit and thought it out but didn't last a week because of how hard it is but i really do want to get to a level of fitness i can do it comfortably.
