Real answer: As programming languages have advanced, more could be done while writing less so general skill has gone down while number of bugs and inefficiencies have gone up due to working with spaghetti meeting spaghetti and instead of going back to make things efficient and streamlined in a better programming language they just force fixes in new lines which cause even more complications down the line.
