Lexi’s anger abruptly turns to wild laughter. “Go? You think you’re going anywhere?” She composes herself, then continues to speak. “I told you. You’re a gift to The Foremother. My way of apologising for the shame I’ve brought.”
“I just wanna like, go. My girlfriend’s gonna be wondering where I am.” The man winces. “I mean, I know I was gonna like, cheat on her with you but that doesn’t mean I don’t like love her and don’t wanna make her worry and stuff, y’know?”
Lexi narrows her eyes. “You wanna go? You think what you want matters? When humans slaughter cattle for their meat, do you think the butcher cares about what the cattle wanted?”
“Nah, like no way.” The man laughs. “No one cares what a cow thinks. That’s like, such a weird question, lady.”
Lexi takes a step toward the man. “The point I’m making is that men are cattle for my kind. See, some of us are foolish enough to think of ourselves as human. I mean, we *look* human, no horns, no wings, no pointy tail. But we’re not, any of us who’ve met The Foremother should understand that. And humans, especially human men like you, exist to be nothing more than our pets, our playthings, and when we so choose, our cattle.”
