Too much close work and this adaptation becomes permanent: myopia.
Eyeglasses for myopia create a virtual image which is even closer, so the eyes adapt to it even more, lengthening further. It's a vicious cycle. Often the eyeball lengthening is damaging and causes floaters as well.
